SWIMMING POOLS & SPAS
Swimming as an organized activity goes back as far as 2500 B.C. in ancient Egypt and later in ancient Greece, Rome, and Assyria. In Rome and Greece, swimming was part of the education of elementary age boys and the Romans built the first swimming pools. The first heated swimming pool was built by Gaius Maecenas of Rome in the first century BC. However, swimming pools did not became popular until the middle of the 19th century. By 1837, six indoor pools with diving boards were built in London, England. After the modern Olympic Games began in 1896 and swimming races were among the original events, the popularity of swimming pools began to spread - Reference Britannica. Thermae Bath Spa is a modern spa in the city of Bath in England, opened in 2006. It is owned by the local Bath and North East Somerset council, and operated by the Thermae Development Company. The main spa has two natural thermal bath, a rooftop pool and an indoor pool, a large steam room elegantly glass-partitioned into four circular zones, and body treatment facilities. One of the city of Bath's main attractions has long been its famous hot spa water, fed by the area's hot springs. The Bath springs are the only hot springs found in the UK. These natural geothermal springs fed into the Roman Baths complex, which was responsible for the prominence of Bath in the Roman period, as well as for the later development of Bath as the country's leading eighteenth and early nineteenth century health resort. In the middle of the 20th Century, the city's swimming pool sourced its water directly from the King's Spring, through one of three pipelines beneath the River Avon. However, the old municipal hot pools were closed in 1978 after the discovery of an infectious organism in one stratum of the aquifer. After that date, bathing was prohibited. The modern spa is descended from the ancient practice of bathing in hot springs and mineral waters. Some say the origin of the word "spa" comes from the Belgian town of Spa, known since Roman times for its baths. Others say it may be an acronym for the Latin phrase "sanitas per aquas" - health through water. In the 19th century, Europe's great spas were destinations for the wealthy, who went there to "take the waters." Water treatments are still considered the heart of the spa experience in Europe.

Our renowned engineers have ensured that every spa we make has the most effective combination of jets, ergonomic design, and precise water flow that could possibly be experienced by people of all ages, genders, and body sizes. It's a good idea to have your water balanced at the beginning of the pool season, or when it is initially filled. Then have it checked once a month during summer.
Your BioGuard® Pool Pro can determine what your pool needs by analysing the water. The most important pool test is pH. A low pH indicates too much acidity. This causes chlorine to be used up quickly and leads to corrosion of equipment and damaged pool surfaces. High pH slows sanitiser effectiveness, causes cloudy water and scale formation on equipment and surfaces.
Your pool also needs to be stabilised. BioGuard Stabiliser is a chemical that prevents loss of chlorine by the sun's UV rays. Because BioGuard offers stabilised chlorine, a separate stabiliser is only necessary when the pool is drained and refilled.
Once your pool is balanced and stabilised, you are ready to move onto the BioGuard Once-a-Week Poolcare Program.
