The City to Surf is a fourteen kilometre fun run from Sydney’s central business district to Bondi Beach.  The run regularly attracts large crowds of participants, including both serious runners and community participants.

The City-Bay is South Australia’s biggest fun run, and is run from the centre of the city to the beach at Glenelg.  Thousands of community participants and competitive runners take part and raise money for a variety of different charities.

The Great Ocean Road Marathon is a weekend of running events on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.  It is open to serious competitors and community participants and the route, which follows the coast, is picturesque enough to make all the hard work worthwhile!

Also known as the Todd River Race, the Henley-on-Todd Regatta is the world’s only dry river regatta and it began its life as a cautious joke at the expense of formal British regattas.  It is an all-day event during which various kinds of craft “sail” down the typically dry Todd River in Alice Springs.  It is also the only regatta to be cancelled due to rain resulting in water in the river.

Dragon Boat Racing originated in China over two thousand years ago and is an important part of Sydney’s Chinese New Year celebrations.  Sporting, social and corporate teams battle it out in Darling Harbour during the two days of the races.

The Bridge to Brisbane fun run is Queensland’s biggest fun run, with tens of thousands of participants taking part in recent events.  The event is run from the Gateway Bridge to New Farm Park and both serious competitors and community participants are welcome to compete.

The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is an annual event that takes place in locations across Australia, raising money for the RSPCA.  The event sees thousands of dogs take to the streets to raise money for the cause.

The Melbourne Marathon is run annually through the streets of Melbourne and covers the traditional marathon distance of about 42 kilometres.  The marathon is open to serious runners and to casual community participants.

Around the Bay in a Day is a recreational cycling event in Melbourne, organised by Cycling Victoria.  The event welcomes all cyclers, whether they want to tackle to full 210km or a shorter version of the course, to raise money for charity.

The Great Victorian Bike Ride is a week-long event in which cyclists of all skill levels can participate.  The ride begins in historic Ballarat and includes a difficult ride through the Grampians.
